A research done in Italy highlighted that 4% of people suffering from migraine headache had celiac. A new study proves that gluten sensitive individuals who consume gluten foods like wheat, barley and rye are more likely to increase the chance of developing chronic migraine headaches.  A team of physicians observed ten patients, who had a long history of chronic headaches. It was discovered that all were sensitive to gluten. When nine out of ten patients took gluten free diet, seven of them got complete relief from headaches and two of them experienced significant relief.

Some researches proved that eliminating gluten from diet greatly reduced headache and migraines among middle-aged people. The grains that contain gluten are wheat, barley, kamut, semolina. You should avoid foods like pasta, pie, cookies, breads and pizzas made with these grains completely. If you are newly diagnosed with gluten sensitivity, you may find it difficult to follow a gluten free lifestyle. Most of the food products contain gluten. Ketchups, sauces, soups and ice creams that do not need wheat or other gluten containing grains do include gluten in powdered form. Therefore, you should be careful in selecting the food products.

There are lots of gluten free grains that you can include in your diet. Rice, arrowroot, buckwheat, corn, flax, millet, rice, rice bran, soy, flax and flours made from beans, nuts and seeds are good gluten free diet that can help you to get rid of headache completely. You can include fresh fruits, vegetables, tofu, sweet potato, yogurts, cottage cheese, fresh beef, poultry, fish and eggs in your diet. You can drink fresh fruit juices prepared at home, coffee, tea and cocoa. Olive oil, canola and vegetable oil can also be consumed.

Taking gluten free diet does not mean that you need to avoid nutrients. You can eat nutrient rich gluten free foods like spinach, almonds, calcium fortified soymilk, peanuts and legumes and can get relief from headache triggered by gluten.
